Avunculus Test

Avunculus test (the word avunculus is Greek), includes the family bond of uncle/nephew/niece.

The avunculus test provides access for a sibling of the putative biological father (aunt or uncle's niece or nephew) to clarify their biological affiliation. In order to perform an avunculus DNA test, the siblings of the putative biological father MUST be full siblings. If the aunt or uncle is only half-siblings of the putative father, the product cannot be offered.

It is advisable to include the mother of the child (niece or nephew) if possible to maximise the accuracy of the analysis.

The result of an Avunculus DNA test depends on how much DNA the people share. Science assumes that a biological aunt or uncle shares 25% of their genetic material, although it is possible they share more or less than the 25% used as a bench mark.
