Description
Grandparent DNA testing between grandparent and grandchild is an indirect way to establish paternity if the presumed biological father is not available.
Grandparent test determines if grandparents are the correct grandparents for a grandchild. The DNA test compares the child's DNA profile with the grandparents' DNA profile(s). A child inherits approximately half of its DNA from its parents. The child's paternal half must match the grandparents' DNA. For a grandparent DNA test, it is recommended (if possible) that both presumed grandparents and the child's mother participate. This will make the result as accurate as possible.
Should it only be possible to test one grandparent and child, it is recommended that the child's known biological mother participates to enable higher accuracy. When the child's biological mother participates, you are guaranteed approximately 50% of the child's DNA profile and this is what makes the accuracy of the analysis optimal.
If only 1 putative biological grandparent and 1 child can be tested, it is still possible to produce a reliable result. With multiple test subjects, including the known biological mother, a confidence of +99.99% is typically achieved.
