Description
The product is an add-on product (separate product) for e.g. a paternity test where 1 of the test persons gives a sample via other material.
There are several reasons why people may want to use alternative sample material for a DNA test. For example, a person may be deceased and the only option is to try analysing material where the person's DNA is still present. There are also situations where you need to confirm a personal relationship without causing a stir or otherwise inconveniencing other people.
Below are examples of buckets and the average probability of producing a full DNA profile from the bucket. The probability of obtaining a DNA profile depends on the quality of the bucket.
Blood on paper, textile or similar (87%)
Dried umbilical cord (95%)
Cotton swab with earwax, min. 2 pcs. (80%)
Hair with hair root min. 5 pcs (70%)
Semen absorbed on cotton swab min. 3 pcs (80%)
Nail tabs, min. 4 pcs (85%)
Used toothbrush (75%)
Material to be analysed should be stored in paper/envelopes. It is not advisable to store samples for DNA analysis in tightly sealed plastic, as this can make analysis impossible. This is especially true for moist materials.
When analysing hair, it is the root of the hair that contains DNA. Therefore, it is often not possible to generate a DNA profile from a brush where the hair has been collected, as this hair typically does not contain significant hair roots.
When you order the discreet DNA test product, you will receive a stamped reply envelope and an envelope dedicated to the person from whom the specific material is to be analysed. You will also receive sample swabs and an envelope for the other person(s) in the test. Samples from other people will be stored and when it has been determined whether a DNA profile can be produced from the special material, you will be notified by e-mail. Analysis of the regular samples can then be started.
When it comes to analysing hair, it's Only the root of the hair that contain DNA.
